Slide #1 A common torture. The author on this occasion pinched a tin of fruit from the Japanese cookhouse and was caught by a Jap guard. It was part of the Red Cross consignments for the POWs which never reached the prisoners, but were always confiscated by the laps for their own use. The victim is tied to a tree in view of the lap guard house. A bucket of fresh water is placed in front of him and he is then left for a period of about 48 hours. A period which usually suffices for the victim to collapse. Anyone trying to approach him suffers the same treatment. A tricky situation arises the next day, when the laps insist that he tums out for work on the railway.
